Freida G McKinney's Obituary
Frieda G. McKinney passed from this life surrounded by her family, on March 2, 2017. She had just celebrated her birthday. She was 98 years young.
Frieda was born February 17th, 1919 in Elk City, Kansas, where she attended school and graduated from. She fell in love and married Dr. Reid McKinney on November 27th, 1941. Reid was a professor at Pittsburg State University, while Frieda was an excellent homemaker, taking care of two wonderful sons, Larry and Scott. Frieda and Reid were married 67 years, until his death in 2010.
Frieda was a sweet-hearted woman who gave back to her community through her jobs at South Broadway Baptist Church and Mt. Carmel Hospital. Her genuine spirit lead her to many friendships by being actively involved in her church (SBBC) and attending her genealogy research club at the library. She was an expert horticulturist who also enjoyed music and antiques.
Frieda was survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Scott and Shelley McKinney of Miami, her grandsons, Mark McKinney of Springfield and Brian McKinney of Oklahoma City, her step-granddaughters Dawn Hurst of Tulsa, and Shauna Glazier of Grove and the Piesker, Louis and extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Lela (Moran) Fowler, her husband Reid, her son Larry McKinney and grandson Chris Reid McKinney, and her sisters, Thelma, Ruth and Jeannie. And just as they are, she will be greatly missed and always loved.
Thank you to everyone who has helped and shown her so much kindness, especially in her later years. Special thanks to Pastor Danny Moss (SBBC), Amber and all the other angels at Good Shepard Hospice, and her loving and devoted caregivers, Sarah Palmer, Shelley McKinney, Shauna Glazier and Rebeckah Weathers. She also had two awesome four legged companions who gave her constant attention, Sugar Bear McKinney and Remington Glazier.
