Frank Dean Leonard's Obituary
Frank Dean Leonard (meemihkwihkicia), aged 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. Frank was at home with Johnnie, his precious wife of 60 years.
Frank was born on January 24th 1947 in Welch, OK . He graduated from Afton High School in 1965, where he had an outstanding football career. Frank moved to Bluejacket, OK in 1967 and lived there the rest of his life.
Frank worked at BF Goodrich for fifteen years, serving as Union Steward for fourteen of those years. While at BF, he also served as Vice Divisional Chairman of Dept 8060 for two years and represented nearly 300 employees. Frank later did custom hay baling and then went on to Internet installation before retiring in 2012.
Frank is a member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, where he was an elected member of the grievance committee for three years. Frank also served as Vice Chair of the MTOBDA Board of Directors for many years. He was awarded the AARP 2016 Native American Elder honor for Oklahoma. Frank loved football, whether it was PeeWee, high school, or the Oklahoma Sooners. He volunteered as PeeWee coach and helped with the Bluejacket High School football team. More than his love for football was his love for Johnnie and his children, Donya, Darla, and Dean.
Frank is preceded in death by his son, Frank Dean Jr, his parents Nancy Jane Moss Mason and R.E. Mason, Chief Cy Leonard and wife Eva, sisters Kathryn Hays and Judy Brittain.
Survivors include wife Johnnie McCoin Leonard, of the home; daughters Donya Williams and husband Jamie of Bluejacket and Darla Matthews and husband John of Bluejacket; sister Stormy Rice and husband Shawn, Laurie Janey and husband Tracy, Glenda Cope and husband Bob, and brother Joe Hafford. Grandchildren Jordan Williams and wife Lana, Jenna Williams, Jessica Williams, Amber Stewart and husband Colton, Kylee Manners and husband Cameron, Zack Dotson and wife Sarah, and Summer Matthews; great grandchildren Jamison, Aaliyah, Avery, Ella, Dakota, Emma, Ranen, Dossie, and Griffin; and a host of family and friends.
Casket bearers will be Jamie Williams, Jordan Williams, Zack Dotson, Jamison Williams, Cameron Manners, and Colton Stewart. Honorary casket bearers will be John Matthews, Jerry Powell, Stoney Humble, Gene Windle, Jim Battese, Jerry Lankford, and Chief Doug Lankford.
Visitation will be held at the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma Council House, 54515 E. 65 Road Miami Oklahoma on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 from 6-8pm. Services will be held at the same location on Thursday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m.
Services provided by Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch, Oklahoma. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery west of Bluejacket, Oklahoma.
