Edna Jewell Shinn's Obituary
Edna Jewell Shinn, 81, of Bluejacket, OK, passed away at her home Friday, May 6, 2016. She was born January 20, 1935 in Pineville, MO to Jerome Jasper Jones and Beulah Marie (Barnes) Jones. On November 8, 1951, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Shinn, in Bluejacket, OK. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1985. To this day, Edna still loved to talk about Kenneth. She retired from Eastern State Hospital after 27 years as a mental health aide. She was a member of the Bluejacket Assembly of God Church. Edna loved the yearly 4th of July family picnic where all the family would gather. She made the best potato salad and baked beans. She loved to watch the family swimming and fishing during the celebration. She loved to talk about growing up in Pineville. She grew up swimming in Sugar Creek and playing in Salt Peeter Cave. One of her greatest memories was the filming of a Jesse James movie in Pineville, She loved to tell the story because some of her family members were extras in the movie. She also got to visit the Jesse James museum in the old Pineville Courthouse. She lived a busy life. She loved to farm alongside Kenneth. She loved running the rodeo circuit with him as well. She loved watching her grandkids play sports. She loved to play bingo and meet new bingo friends. She loved talking about family, telling stories, and baking. Everyone wanted her recipe for dish pan cookies. She will be greatly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three brothers, Bill Jones, Clinton Jones, and Clifford Barnes. She is survived by one daughter, Velma Hensley, of Vinita, OK; 2 sisters, Noveda Jones of Miami, OK, and Carolyn Cook of Mulberry, KS; one son, Michael Shinn and wife Monica of Bluejacket, OK; one grandson, Bobby Hensley II, of Vinita, OK; and two great grandchildren, Taylor and Shayla Hartfield. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Bluejacket Assembly of God Church. Pastor Leonard Stoner will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Bluejacket Cemetery.
