Edith E. Fox's Obituary
Edith E. Fox, 87, a longtime resident of Welch, OK, passed away Tuesday evening, September 1, 2015, at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO. She was born September 4, 1927 in Altamont, KS to Fred and Ola (McKinney) Cottengim. She moved to rural Welch in 1939 at the age of 12. At the age of 15, she moved into town. She was a homemaker. She graduated from Welch High School in 1945. She also attended N.E.O. A&M College. She married J. Stanley Fox in Vinita, OK on January 15, 1965. He passed away November 22, 1987. Edith was well known in the Welch community as a senior companion, filling in at City Hall, caring for the Civic Center, and serving on the city council. She was a member of the Welch Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Welch Senior Citizens, Welch Lions Club, and Clear Creek Grange #84 where she served as a previous secretary. She loved to crochet, quilt, and help others. For the past year, she had resided at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, OK. She is survived by one son, Dennis Franz of South Coffeyville, OK; one daughter, Rose Alice "Sue" Teague and husband Don of Bella Vista, AR; one grandson, Rod Addington and wife Teri, of Justin, TX; three sisters, Irene Morton and Colleen Polson, both of Welch, and Rosemary Wollard and husband Richard, of Miami, OK; two nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch. Minister Brad Canham will officiate. A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Welch Lions Club, c/o Welch State Bank, P.O. Box 129 Welch, OK with donations specifically designated for the Lions Eye Bank.
