Doris Arlene Rice's Obituary
Doris Arlene Rice, 89, a longtime resident of Miami passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Mrs. Rice was born on September 30, 1924 in Chanute, Kansas to Herbert and Beulah (Garr) Toomey. She went to high school and then attended junior college in Chanute where she worked for an oil field research company as an office manager. She married Robert Rice on August 27, 1950 at the Chanute United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Miami and she volunteered at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center since 1974. Doris was preceded in passing by her parents Herbert and Beulah Toomey, her husband Robert Rice, a son Greg Allen Rice, two brothers Donald Toomey and Roger Toomey.
Survivors include her daughter Leslie Ann Rice of Miami, a daughter in law Linda Rice a brother Richard Toomey of Indianapolis, her grandchildren Doug Rice and his wife Peggy of Moore, Oklahoma, Annette Doubledee and her husband Enoch of Dallas, Texas, Lindsey Rice of Joplin, Missouri and Garth Rice of Miami and two great grandchildren Maggie Rice and Gavin Rice both of Moore.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Cooper Memorial Chapel at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami with Reverend David Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, Miami.
