Doretha June Addington's Obituary
Doretha "Dody" June Addington, 93, passed away Fri., Oct. 14, 2022, at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw, Okla.
Dody was born in Welch, Okla., June 21, 1929, to Joseph Ernest Dossman and Emma Austaphine Dossman, née Kline.
She lived in the Welch and Miami, Okla., area her whole life. She graduated from Welch High School in 1947, then attended Draughon Business College in Tulsa, Okla.
She married Lewis Addington July 2, 1949, and they were married until his death in 1992. They had three children.
Dody worked for Security Bank & Trust in Miami for 28 years, retiring in June 1991 as head of bookkeeping.
Dody loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, other family members, and friends. She had a special love and ability with flowers and gardening and always had several plants she was growing.
After retirement, she lived with daughter and son-in-law, Lew Ann and Lonnie Wynn, for several years before moving to Heartland Plaza, now Featherstone, in Miami. Her health and mobility were good, and she made many friends there. She became especially close with Marlene Goforth until Marlene had to move to a nursing home. Dody's recent transition to Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw reunited the two friends, and they enjoyed being reacquainted for Dody's last few weeks.
Dody was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Austaphine Dossman; husband, Lewis Addington; grandson, Travis Addington; and son-in-law, Lonnie Wynn. She is survived by one brother, Larry Dossman and wife Shirley of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sons, Jerry Addington of Derby, Kan., and Terry Addington and wife Kim of Tulsa; one daughter, Lew Ann Wynn, of Welch; grandchildren: Rodney Addington and wife Teri of Roanoke, Tex., Bonnie Ryland of Wichita, Kan., Cassie Addington of Wichita, Cody Addington of Bixby, Okla., Dustyn Addington and wife Lane of Seattle, Wash., Tyson Wynn of Chouteau, Okla., and Shelby Wynn of Welch; two great-granddaughters, Isalee Ryland of Wichita and Addileigh Josephine Smith of Welch; and two nieces, Sherri Dossman of Wellington, New Zealand, and Jana Dossman of Broken Arrow.
The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m., Fri., Oct. 21, 2022, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home chapel in Welch. Dody's memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Greg Highsmith will officiate. Burial will follow at Welch City Cemetery, west of Welch. Pallbearers are Cody Addington, Dustyn Addington, Rodney Addington, Barry Oliver, Scott Wynn, and Tyson Wynn.
Dody's family wishes to specially thank Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw and particularly Dylan Massey with Integris Miami Hospice, who was a godsend, for their excellent care in Dody's final days.
