Donald Lee Betts' Obituary
Longtime Welch, Okla. resident Donald Lee Betts, 75, passed away early Saturday morning, January 24, 2015 at Craig General Hospital in Vinita after a sudden illness. Donald was born December 01, 1939 in Miami, Okla. to Denver Harrison Betts and Amy Alvina (Thompson) Betts. Donald attended Miami Public Schools and later studied culinary arts at NEO Okmulgee Tech and perfected his skills as a mechanic at NEO Vo-Tech in Afton. He worked for over 25 years as a bus driver and mechanic for the Welch Public Schools. Donald loved to fish, collect old knives and coins, read a good book, and attend auctions. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harvey Betts and Robert Betts, and one sister, Jessie Chittam. He is survived by two sons, Phillip and James Betts, both of Welch; three daughters, Amy Betts of Welch, Danta Blackwell and husband Brian of Glenpool, Okla., and Kelly Larson and husband Shannon of Chelsea, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren,; and three sisters, Betty Betts of Commerce, Okla., Maycell Essex of Miami, Okla., and Pauline Easterly of North Dakota. Private family services will be held at a later date.
