Dennis Ray McCord's Obituary
Dennis Ray "Denny" McCord, 71, of rural Welch, Okla., passed away at his home Saturday morning, February 19, 2022, while surrounded by his family.
He was born September 7th, 1950, in Parsons, Kansas to Herbert Clifford McCord and Nellie Nadine (Fromm) McCord. He was graduate Welch High School, Class of 1968. He continued his education at Pittsburg State on a baseball scholarship as a pitcher. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1972.
On May 23rd, 1980, he married the former Shirley Humphrey in a ceremony in Miami, Okla. They made their home northwest of Welch where they raised their four children. Along with being a farmer and rancher, he worked for, and retired from, John Deere Coffeyville Works in Coffeyville, Kansas where he was plant supervisor. He also served several terms on the Welch Public Schools School Board.
In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, farming, ranching, cattle, show pigs, music, and tinkering with Farmall tractors.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, C.J. McCord; and an aunt, Virginia McCord.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Dalton McCord of Welch; three daughters, Terri Cornett and husband Joshua of North Bend, WA, Miranda Acton and husband Jeremy of Saint Joseph, MO, and Cheyenne Stafford and husband Larry of Miami, OK; five grandchildren; a special cousin, Kenny McCord; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; several special cousins; and his friends in the Amish community.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, February 21st, at the Thomas and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22nd, also at the funeral home. Tyson Wynn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Williams Timber Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Eric Smith, Benny McCord, C.J. McCord, Shannon Hart. Leroy Simmons, Kelly Simmons, Tom Herrin, and John Seay. Honorary casket bearers will be Stan Eller, Rick Tipton, Garry Chaney, Larry Stafford, Keylon Stogsdill, Steve Boyer, Heston Davis, and Dave Perry.
