Dennis Dean Compton's Obituary
Dennis Dean Compton, a cattleman and lifelong cowboy of Miami, Oklahoma, died October 20th, 2021 at the age of 70.
Dennis is survived by his children, Travis Dean and Tonya Louise; his five siblings and their spouses, Fletcher and Lana, Beverly and Tom Amos, Connie McMillian (husband, Richard deceased), Sandy and Gary Mullins, and Debbie and Ken Atwell. He is predeceased by his father, Benjamin Fletcher Compton and his mother, Viola Johnson Compton; and his nephew, Benjamin Compton III.
Dennis was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 26, 1951 to B. Fletcher Compton and Viola Compton. He attended Rock School for his first eight years of school and then completed his education in Sand Springs High School. He played basketball and football through high school, lettering in both.
Dennis was a lifelong cowboy. He spent his life managing ranches, breaking horses, being a ferrier, and enjoyed team roping competition with his best friend, Ricky Day. Later he spent hours at sale barns buying cattle for other ranchers or himself. Besides rodeos, and working with horses and cattle, he loved hunting. He was often a hunting guide for groups in Wyoming. Dennis was full of fun and laughter. He always enjoyed playing a practical joke on someone.
Dennis loved his family and had a faith in God which has carried him through the hard times and will carry him home. He will be sincerely missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be at Brown-Winters Funeral Home Miami Chapel on Sunday, October 24th, 2021 from 4pm-6pm. Mr. Compton’s Funeral is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday October 25th, 2021 at One Church Miami with Brother Tom Amos officiating.
