Deborah M. Whelan's Obituary
Deborah M. Whelan, 72, a resident of rural Bluejacket, OK, passed away at her home on Tuesday evening, July the 16th, 2024, surrounded by her husband and daughters.
She was born January 16, 1952 in Parsons, KS to Oscar and Dorotha (Proctor) Smith. She was graduate of Parsons High School. She continued her education and became a Registered Nurse in 1976. On July 26th, 1974, she married the love of her life, Donald Whelan, in a ceremony in Parsons, KS.
She loved life on the farm. She enjoyed raising farm animals alongside her husband. Her favorite was her chickens. Always being one to care for others is what drove her to nursing, working many years at Eastwood Manor, Osborne Care and Rehab, and Sacred Heart Health Care. She enjoyed working VBS at church and going to camp meetings. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist in Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kimberly Whelan; and two brothers, Larry and Denny Diesche.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, of the home; three children, Melissa Cicotte, Stephanie Look and husband Tad, and Bryan Whelan; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August the 2nd, 2024, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home. Chaplain Mark Bright will officiate.
