David F. McManigal's Obituary
David F. McManigal, 73 went to his heavenly home on Sept. 13th, 2011 at Osborne Care and Rehab Center, Miami, Oklahoma. Dave was born on July 24, 1938 in Caruthersville, MO. He was the son of Rose Frazelle McManigal and Donald I. McManigal. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dave was a veteran of the US Navy and graduated first in his class at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Bainbridge, MD. He received a fleet appointment to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis which he declined. On Dec. 19, 1959, he married Marcia Holcomb in Tucson, AZ. Dave was employed by IBM in New York and Colorado for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1996. He received many patents and awards.
Surviving are his wife of 52 ½ years of the home; sons Michael McManigal, Miami, OK and Port Ewen, NY, Paul McManigal and wife Shannon, of Summerville, SC, and daughter Susan Kleinke and her husband, Edward, of Saugerties, NY; six grandchildren, Joyce Hausermann, Christian Hausermann and husband, Edward of Saugerties, NY; siz grandchildren, Joyce Hausermann, Christian Hausermann and Ethan Kleinke of Saugerties, NY, and Krystal, Kevin and Kyle McManigal of Charleston, SC, and step grandchildren, Sarah and Casey Irish of Summerville, SC; his sisters, Lois Carlberg and husband of Early, IA, Judy Boyer and husband of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Gloria McManigal of Kansas City, MO; sisters-in-law Betty Jane Edwards of Miami, Charlotte Clark of Baxter Springs, KS, brothers-in-law Don Holcomb of Bernice, Ted Holcomb and wife, Florence, of Kingman, AZ and many nieces and nephews.
Dave always enjoyed being active in his community. During his life, he was a scoutmaster, volunteer fireman and policeman, rescue squad member, and East Fishkill, NY, Planning Board Member. In Miami, he had been involved in Meals on Wheels, Hearts and Hammers, Kiwanis, Miami Little Theatre, and Rotary International. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and was the first rector and guiding force in the founding of the international Christian movement, Tres Dias. He had worked on many Christian retreats in the maximum security prisons at Greenhaven and Napanoch, New York.
Dave was a loving father and proud grandfather. He was much loved and will be sorely missed. His celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM on Friday Sept. 16, 2011 , at the First Presbyterian Church on Veterans Blvd., in Miami, OK, with Rev. Dr. Helen Hutchison officiating. There will be no visitation hours. Services are under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www. cooperalthousefunealhome.com.
