Dan Mailath's Obituary
Dan Mailath was born Nov. 7, 1918 in Gary, Ind. to John and Elena (Nan) Mailath. He was the youngest of six children. Dan graduated from Froebel High School and was a star basketball player. He then attended Purdue University. He married Ethel Frances Mandel on May 30, 1940. To that union were born three children daughters Nancy C. Harris and Danette Brown and son Dan G. Mailath. Dan worked several years for U.S. Steel. He was a co-owner for a beer distributor selling KB beer and other brands. The family moved to Commerce, Okla. in 1950 where he was the long-time proprietor of Dan's Motel. Dan enjoyed playing cards and golf. His wife Ethel which was a long time Miami High School teacher passed away in 1988. Dan moved to Tulsa in 2004 where he spent his last years closer to his children and grandchildren. Dan is preceded in death by his wife Ethel, parents, and siblings John Mailath, George Mailath, Helen Mailath, Cornelia Mailath, and Aurel Maitlath. He is survived by sister-in-laws Harriet Onda, Paulette Baker, his three children, grandchildren Cathy Gallagher, Greg Harris, David Brown, Danielle Pawley, Melissa Mailath Snider, Daniel S. Mailath, and Tyler Mailath, nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 15, 2012 at Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery with Rev. Carl Kerkenmeyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Dan's name to the Animal Welfare Society of Ottawa County.
