Damon Mitchell Montgomery's Obituary
Damon Mitchell Montgomery, 68, a resident of Miami, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was born in Miami on April 24, 1958, in Miami to Jackie Lee and Norma Jean (Edens) Montgomery. Damon graduated from Miami High School in the class of 1976. Not too long after that, he entered the United States Marines. After being honorably discharged, he began a career at Locke Supply. While working at Locke, he also worked part-time as a Reserve Deputy for the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. He worked there until retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman. Damon had picked up a class and went to a gunsmithing school, which helped begin a second career as an armorer for the federal government. He worked for the Department of Defense in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and then in Northwest Arkansas. Damon was preceded in passing by his parents, Jackie and Norma Montgomery, his wife, Jill Mika, and his brothers, Dion Montgomery and David Montgomery.
Survivors include his daughter, Ashley Montgomery of Springfield, his brother, Darin Montgomery, and his wife, Joyce, along with his many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Damon’s Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel in Miami, with Reverend Kay Harvey and Reverend Mary Susan Whaley officiating.
There will be a private family interment at the All-Saints Episcopal Church in Miami.
Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
