Charles Giles' Obituary
Charles Eldon Giles, a longtime area resident passed away at his home in Quapaw, Oklahoma on Monday, July 23, 1012 at the age of eighty-eight. He was born on August 30, 1923 in Miami, Oklahoma to Bill and Grace (Parish) Giles. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for Acme Aircraft and later for himself in Hawthorne, California where he married his wife Shirley Grant on August 6, 1960. Mr. Giles was a member of the United States Navy where he earned the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class during World War II. He and Shirley moved back to the area in 1980, he enjoyed taking his pontoon boat out fishing and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Giles was preceded in death by his parents, a son Steven Giles and a granddaughter Heather Giles.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Giles of the home, a son Michael Giles of Billings, Montana, two daughters Cindy Giles of Quapaw, Oklahoma and Carolyn Giles of Odem, Texas, grandchildren are David Giles, Jeremy Ewing, Tina Preston, Randy Turpin and Justin Harpin, great grandchildren are Chloe Ewing, Xavier Ewing and Kaylyn Preston.
Graveside services are on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami. The United States Navy Funeral Honors Team will be providing military honors. Graveside services are under the direction of the Brown-Winters Funeral Home in Miami.
