Charles Lloyd Darr, Sr.'s Obituary
Charles "Charley" Lloyd Darr, Sr., went home to be with the Lord September 18, 2021, after a long illness, at his home in Quapaw.
He is survived by his wife Betty "Jean" Darr of the home; three sons, Charles "Lloyd" Darr Jr. and wife Kay of North Miami, Randy Dale Darr and wife Carla of Bluejacket, and Darrell Gene Darr and wife Jennifer of Round Rock, TX; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Charles was born in Cardin, Okla. to Guy and Susie Darr on November 29, 1927. When Charles was around 3 years old, the family moved to Welch where Charles grew up. He helped his dad in his blacksmith shop. He was a graduate of Welch High School.
Around 1944, Charles joined the Army Air Force. He was first stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, then transferred to Fort Worth, TX where he learned to work on and test fly airplanes. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1947 and he returned to Welch.
Charles and Jean were married in Picher, Okla. on December 22, 1948 by Charles' dad, Reverend Guy Darr. They lived in Picher until they built a house and had it moved to North Miami in 1969. Then, around 1982, they bought land near Quapaw and built a house there to live in.
After Charles and Betty were married, he delivered ice the first couple of years. He then went to work for Landis Steel as a welder, being promoted to foreman. After 40 years working for Landis, he went to work for Waiseda as a foreman, retiring in 1991. Even though he was never ordained as a pastor, he was called on often by various churches to preach. He dearly loved the Lord and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Susie Darr; 3 sisters, Ruth Darr, Julia Waters, and Muriel Jenks; 2 brothers, Guy Darr and Ralph Darr; and a granddaughter, Carissa Darr.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch. Chaplain Geoff Buffalo will officiate.
