Carolyn Sue Young's Obituary
Carolyn Sue Young, of Jay, OK, beloved wife, mother and educator, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 after battling Alzheimer's disease. She was 79 years old. Carolyn was born on May 20, 1935 to Robert and Freda (Fluke) Carruth in Elk City, OK. As a child, her family moved to Hydro, OK, where she was raised and graduated from High School. Continuing her education, she attended Phillips University in Enid, OK where she met the love of her life, John Young. On September 15, 1956, they were married in Hydro, OK and the couple went on to make their home in Kansas City, MO. Carolyn received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Phillips University and pursued her passion of music and educating children, and later, continued on to earn a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Missouri. She devoted 30 years of her life to teaching Music and Band at Centers School District in Kansas City, MO and touched countless students throughout her career. She served as President of the Missouri Music Teachers Association and President of the Kansas Ministers Wives Association while in Kansas City. After retiring, the couple moved to Grand Lake in 1995 and Carolyn soon became active in the First United Methodist Church, Sweet Annie's Herb Club and the Camera Club. Carolyn was a beautiful woman, but she will be remembered most for her graciousness, kind spirit and the sincere care that she expressed for people. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her loving family that remain are: husband, John Young of Jay, Ok; daughter, Jacarol Johnson & husband, Gary, of Lone Jack, MO; son, Douglas Young & wife, Teresa and granddaughter, Brittany, all of Shawnee, KS and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: her parents and 6 siblings. Memorial services will be at 11am Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Ok. Rev. Randy Hamill to officiate. Donations may be made to: the Back Pack Program in c/o of the FUMC, 1005 Leisure Rd, Grove, OK 74344. This program provides food for needy children to take home with them after school.
