Carl Ray Merit's Obituary
Carl Ray Merit, 79, a resident of Fairland, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Mr. Merit was born on March 2, 1944, in Fairland, Oklahoma, to Raymond and Lorraine “Babe” (Atkinson) Merit. Carl grew up in Fairland and graduated from Fairland High School. Carl worked most of his life, starting at about thirteen years old as a newspaper boy, delivering Miami newspapers in Fairland. He moved to Dallas, Texas fresh out of high school to work on freight docks. He would move on to work the job of his dreams, as an over the road truck driver for the rest of his life. Those close to Carl would call him a tinkerer, he was always working on antique cars or tractors. He enjoyed going to any kind of auction, but more than anything vehicle auctions, looking for his next project. Mr. Merit will always be remembered as a hardworking and caring man. Mr. Merit is preceded in passing by his parents, Raymond and Lorraine Merit.
Those left to share the memory of Mr. Merit is his partner, Ken Hinds, and his brothers, Larry Merit and his wife Dee of Grove, Oklahoma, and Bob Merit of Fairland, Oklahoma.
Mr. Merit’s visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Funeral services will start at 2:00 P.M. at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Interment will follow at the Fairland Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
