Carl Gene Mayfield's Obituary
Carl Gene Mayfield, 93, of rural Miami, formerly of Welch, passed away Tuesday evening, April the 14th, 2026, at Freeman West in Joplin, MO, surrounded by his family.
He was born to Claude and Charlotte (Miller) Mayfield on February the 26th, 1933, in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Chetopa High School where he was active in sports and was known as a standout athlete.
Carl was a lifelong cattleman. He and his brothers owned the Welch Livestock Auction from 1977-1985. The cattle business was special to him. He was always willing to help other cattlemen when they needed it as was always willing to give his advice to those who needed it. He was an avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan. His top priority was always his family. He is a veteran of the United States Army.
He was proceeded in death by nine siblings.
He is survived by three children, Kristy (Mayfield) Dagenhardt and husband Bryan of Houma, Louisiana, Mike Mayfield and wife Brenda of Fairland, OK, and Doug Mayfield and wife Amie of Miami, OK; seven grandchildren, Brandon McAffrey, Brady Waite, Jessie (Waite) Perkins, Mattie (Mayfield) Letherman, Brady Reynolds, Scout Mayfield, and Charley Mayfield; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April the 17th, 2026, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Pastor Greg Highsmith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Welch Cemetery. Casket bearers will be J.D. Fry, Jim Snodderly, Larry Layton, Gary Layton, Junior Walker, and Bruce Vazquez. Honorary casket bearers will be Bob Eubanks, Ray Davis, Shane Pruitt, and Travis Jones.
