Calvin Dale Newman's Obituary
Calvin Dale Newman, 88, a lifelong resident of Welch, Okla., passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami. Dale was born on June 20, 1926 in rural Welch to Charles Oscar Newman and Mary Della (Mills) Newman. Dale lived in the Welch, Okla. area his entire life. He attended Welch Public Schools where he enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball. He was a pitcher on local minor league baseball teams. He also volunteered his time to coach youth baseball and softball teams, sharing his valuable experience. Dale met Lee Anna Marcus while working together at the H.D. Lee Garment Factory in Chetopa, Kansas, where he worked as a supervisor. They married in June of 1956. Later, Dale worked with his mother, sister, and wife at the family business, Newman's Cafe, a landmark on Main Street of Welch. He was a member of the Welch Christian Church, Welch Booster Club, and was an avid supporter of the Welch Schools. He was also an accomplished poet and artist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Anna, on April 17, 2004. He was also preceded by his parents and sister. Dale is survived by two sisters, Betty J. McDowell and Wanda L. Doan, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Dale's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Welch Christian Church. Minister Brad Canham will officiate. Burial was held at the Welch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Welch Christian Church, Welch Public Schools, or the charity of your choice to continue Dale's giving spirit.
