Calista Hawkins' Obituary
Calista F. Hawkins, 96, a resident of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at Belfair of McAlester on Saturday December 3, 2022. Mrs. Hawkins was born on May 21, 1926 in Fairland, Oklahoma to Phillip and Anna (Cook) Gress. She took great pride in being a loving mother and homemaker. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester. Her hobbies included playing cards with friends, gardening, and tending to her beautiful flower garden. Above all Mrs. Hawkins loved being a mother and grandmother. Preceding Mrs. Hawkins in passing are her parents, Phillip and Anna Gress, husband, Ruben R. Hawkins, son, Charles M. Hawkins, daughter, Elizabeth Hawkins-Weeks, son in-law, Patrick M. Baker, sisters, Edith Gress, Ruth Crabtree, Cleo Edwards, Claudine Schoenhals, brother, Marvin Gress, daughter, and son in-law Patrick Michael Baker.
Those left to share the beautiful memory of Mrs. Hawkins include her daughter, Rheba Baker of Oklahoma City, sons, Phillip Hawkins and his wife Susan of Ada and Larry Joe Hawkins and his wife Ruthie of Eufaula, twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Hudson Creek Baptist Church in Fairland with Reverend Jerry Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami. Mrs. Hawkins’ services been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami, Oklahoma.
