Buddy Charles Nelson's Obituary
Buddy Charles Nelson an eighty-nine-year-old Wyandotte resident passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on July 30, 1934, in Wyandotte to Forrest and Vance (Dushane) Nelson. Buddy entered the United States Navy early on. While in the Navy he worked as a mechanic. After retiring honorably, Buddy worked as an auto mechanic for years. He also enjoyed a bargain. Mr. Nelson became an auctioneer, where he would refurbish antique furniture and collect different items for the auction. He loved to be outside and could often be found fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren which always included the neighborhood kids too. Buddy was a proud member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe; he enjoyed keeping up with tribal politics. Mr. Nelson was preceded in passing by his parents, Forrest, and Vance, his two children Patty Cochran and Mike Nelson, his sisters Josephine Barnes, Marcella “Dee” Griffith, Carmelita Hancock, and Rhonda Nelson.
Those who will share Buddy’s memory are his children Kelly Nelson of Wyandotte, Terri Landis of Tulsa, Bonita Payton of Wyandotte, Lori Neumann of Tulsa, Trina Nelson-Higgins of Elm Springs, Arkansas, Forrest Nelson of Fayetteville, Devon Nelson of Arkansas, Norman Hildebrand Jr. of Quapaw, Phillip Hildebrand of Miami, Rhonda Klindworth of Wyandotte, and Kathy Burrow of Grove, his thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren along with his great great grandchildren and one brother Doyle “Butch” Nelson.
Visitation will be from 4 PM until 6 PM, on Sunday, April 28 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Services are 10 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service's Chapel in Miami. Interment will follow at the Glen Abbey Memorial Garden Cemetery with the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team providing military honors.
Casketbearers will be J. Dalton Pogue, Cody Burrow, Sammy Turner, Jack Barnes, Donnie Greanfeather and Norman Hildebrand.
