Billy E. Thompson's Obituary
Billy E. Thompson, 89, formerly of Chetopa, KS, passed away August 10, 2016 at Country Place Senior Living in Chanute, KS. Bill was born February 5, 1927 in Independence, KS, the son of Edward A. Thompson and Pearl Moyer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. He then married Betty Jo Fox upon his return to Independence. They divorced in 1971. They had three children, Danny Thompson of Chanute, Kaye Herweg (Robert) of Tucson, and Anne Ranz (Ed) of Chanute. In 1972, Bill married Loucille Freeman in Independence. Together, they owned and operated Bill Thompson Agency in Chetopa where they sold insurance and real estate until retiring in 2002. Loucille preceded him in death. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and Shriners. He was a 49 year member of the American Legion, the Gideon's International, and a faithful member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his 3 children; a stepson, John Freeman (Gayla) of Independence; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the GAR Cemetery in Miami, OK with Reverend Terry Robison officiating.
