Billy Jack "Sam" Thach's Obituary
Billy Jack "Sam" Thach, 77, of rural Adair, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday evening, December 19, 2020, at his home while surrounded by his family.
He was born May 25, 1943 in Vinita, Oklahoma to Bill and Lucille (McCoy) Thach. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in Vietnam. He was a member of Charlie Company 1st Cav Division Airborne. He was awarded the Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Vietnam Service Badge. He served from 1963-1966, and upon discharge, joined the Army Reserves, serving until 1969.
In March of 1989, he married the former Sharon Gladhill in a ceremony in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their home in rural Adair where he continued his work as a rancher and farmer. In his spare time, he enjoyed trading, antique tractors, and most of all, his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Adair.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Jane Nicely.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; three sons, Doug Thach of Langley, Nick Moudy and wife Tessa of Adair, and Kevin Skaggs of Claremore; a daughter, Amie Mayfield and husband Doug of Miami; four sisters, Peggy Small, Edna Lee Keaton, Shirley Winfrey, and Judy Thach; nine grandchildren, Brady Reynolds, Scout Mayfield, Charley Mayfield, Jackson Thach, Carmen Thach, Charlie Thach, Quinton Moudy, Quaid Moudy, and Brendon Skaggs; along with numerous nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held in the Chapel of the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch on Tuesday evening, December 22, 2020, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Welch Cemetery. Pastor Sam Wilson will officiate. Casket bearers will be Nick Moudy, Doug Thach, Brady Reynolds, Blair Small, Todd Small, and Zac Small. Honorary casket bearers will be Tony Small, David Jones, Quinton Moudy, and Quaid Moudy.
