Art Rice's Obituary
Hugh Arthur "Art" Rice, 80, of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Silverton, Oregon on May 22, 1940, to Pum and Bernadine (Reed) Rice. He left school after the ninth grade so he could enter trade school. As a result, he became a Master Electrician, a trade he used for many, many, years. On December 26, 1960, he married the former Arlene Gripe in a ceremony in Naturita, Colorado. He also served for a time in the National Guard.
He was a member of the Welch Assembly of God Church.
Art worked for several years in the uranium mines in Colorado. He later worked in the coal mines in Oklahoma. Even during these work periods, he still performed electrical work, a job he was good at and enjoyed until ill health forced him to slow down. He was the kind of guy that considered hard work his hobby.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mathew Logan T. Hankins; four brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene, of the home; two daughters, Ruth Rice, of Miami, Oklahoma and Trudy Hankins and husband Pat of Waxahachie, Texas; one son, Darrell Hankins and wife Lynda, of rural Miami; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins; as well as a host of friends.
Art's Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Welch Cemetery. Evangelist Jamie Crawford will officiate.
