Archie Calvin Bates' Obituary
Archie Calvin Bates, 94, a resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Integris Miami Hospital. Calvin was born on March 12, 1932, in Missouri, to Archie Clay and Sarah (Hylton) Bates. Calvin married the love of his life Oma Lee Sparlin on September 7, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He worked for 42 years for Long Bell and International Paper Company in Joplin. When Calvin was not working, he enjoyed gardening, tending his rose bushes, being outdoors, fishing, and fixing things. Mr. Bates is preceded in passing by his parents, Archie Clay and Sarah Bates, and siblings, Orville Bates, Margaruite, (Bates) Robertson, Martha (Bates) Convirs.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-four years, Oma Bates, children, Linda Hopkins and husband Carroll, Susan Nance and husband John, grandchildren, Shauna Foust and husband Jeremy, Brent Hopkins and wife Jennifer, David Nance and wife, Tammy, Jacob Nance, Rachel (Nance) Flores, and husband Chris. Great grandchildren include Blake Hopkins, and wife Lindsey, Brady Hopkins, Makala Nance, Breanna Nance, Ariella Flores, Jocelyn, Flores, Morel Flores, and Lauren Woods. Siblings include Richard Bates, Leonard Bates, Dorlene (Bates) Massey.
There will be a Graveside Service for Mr. Bates at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Ottawa Indian Cemetery with Reverend Carroll Hopkins officiating.
