Truman Leon McCoin

Truman “Leon” McCoin, 75, a longtime resident of Afton, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at his home. He was born on December 17, 1941 in Miami, Oklahoma to Elmer and Gladys (Geouge) McCoin. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Afton High School where he participated in Football, Basketball and FFA. He married Phyllis Garoutte on May 19, 1961 at her home. He worked as a Rancher and Cowboy all his life. He ranched and lived the cowboy life till the day he went to heaven. If you bought or sold cattle, you knew Leon McCoin. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Afton, a Member of the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association; Huge Supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, by donating countless amounts to their association. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Elmer and Gladys McCoin and his wife Phyllis McCoin, he was also preceded in passing by two brothers Larry and Ed McCoin. Survivors include a son Jake McCoin and his wife Shelly of Afton, his daughter, Tracy Wheatley and her husband Mike of Afton, his grandchildren Jordan McCoin and his girlfriend Melanie (Madelynn) Blackburn, Dillon Wheatley, Paige Herman, Daley Ralyn Wheatley and Jesse McCoin, Step-grandchildren Dusty Herman, Coby Herman and Gavin Herman a great granddaughter Brooklyn Holland. Other survivors include one sister Carol Copenhaver of Beggs and numerous nieces and nephews and their families from the McCoin Side (Vickie Tipton, Eddie McCoin, Lari Crane, Brett Shearhart, Stacy Miller, Cindy Kutz and Nancy McCune. Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Services are 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church in Afton with Pastor Dean Bridges and Pastor Blake Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Casketbearers will be Jake McCoin, Jesse McCoin, Falcon McCoin, Jordan McCoin, Mike Wheatley and Dillon Wheatley. Honorary Casketbearers will be Doug Mayfield, Jim Bullard, Jack Harper, Hudd (Eddie Hudspeth), Curtis Larmon, Aurthur Morgan, Don Wisnet, Bobby Shinn, Jeff Greenfeather and Nathan Ponder. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
