Maysell Loraine Essex

Maysell Loraine Essex, 92, a lifetime Miami resident passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce. Maysell began her life on June 8, 1931 in Miami, Oklahoma. She was born to Denver Harrison and Amy Alvina (Thompson) Betts. She worked early on with the Integris Miami Hospital, then worked as an assistant manager at Wal-Mart. She also worked for years helping run convenience stores. Mrs. Essex was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Miami. Maysell enjoyed shopping which helped her acquire a nice selection of Shoes, Jewelry and Clothes. She also loved to cook, her favorites were making her peanut brittle and Divinity. If Mrs. Essex was home, she would have Grit TV on watching her westerns. Maysell was preceded in passing by her husband Fred Bauer, and later her husband L.M. Essex, her siblings Jessie Chitam, Robert Betts, Pauline Easterly, Charles Betts, Harvey Betts and Donald Betts, her daughter Phyllis Terry, her grandchildren Brandon Terry, Eric Bauer and Michael Bauer. Those who will share Maysell’s memory are her children Dave E. Bauer and his wife Christine of Grove, Dennis G. Bauer and his wife Jan of Commerce, Nancy Goforth of Miami, Lawson Essex and his wife Carol of Grove, son in law Bill Terry of Fairland, her sister Betty Ann Betts, grandchildren Jennifer Witten and her husband Kurt, Jesica Bell and her husband Kevin, Jaycee Ragsdale and her husband Blake, Kelsey Acuna, and Holly Ahfield and her husband Keenan. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Elsie, Amelie and Titus Witten, Lexie and Brooklyn Bell, Makenzie Young, Kaylee Acuna and Brett Ahfield. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brown-Winters funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami. Maysell's Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023 at First Christian Church in Miami with Minister's Kurt Witten and Leon Weece officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairland Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Lawson Essex, Blake Ragsdale, Kevin Bell, Troy Essex, Randy Gleaves and Kurt Witten. Honorary Casketbearer will be Glen Plott.
