Donald T. Babst

Donald T. Babst, 80, a lifetime Fairland resident passed away at Grand Lake Villa in Grove on Friday, May 31, 2013. Don was born on September 4, 1932 in Fairland to Theodore Otto and Charlotte Louise “Lottie” (Schnarre) Babst. He graduated with an Associate in Agriculture from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. His first wife Maxine (Reed) Babst preceded him in passing December 20, 1971. Mr. Babst worked for B.F.Goodrich for thirty-one years, he and his brother also had the Babst Auction Service for sixteen years and he worked as a realtor for Hazel Weber, Walter Cobb and Susan Rhodes. Donald was a member of the American Quarter horse Association for fifty years, and was a horse breeder for the American Quarterhorse Association for thirty years. He also was a member of the MOKA Horse Club Association and was the Four State Announcer. He was a founding member of the Fairland Roundup Club, worked as a rodeo announcer, and was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairland where he was an Elder and President. Those who preceded Donald in passing are his first wife Maxine Babst and his parents Theodore and Lottie Babst. Survivors include his wife Joy D. Babst of the home, a daughter Carrol Caviness of Fairland, a son Gary Dugan and Paulette of Fairland, a daughter Penny King of Nowata, Oklahoma, a brother Charles Babst Sr. and his wife Jonell of Fairland, his grandchildren; Shelley Weaver and her husband Shane of Fairland, Lisa Rasberry and her husband Charlie of Miami, Stephanie Gragg and her husband Charles of Fairland, Lyn Caviness of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Nakilah Allgood and her husband Michael of Fairland, and Kalen King of Miami. There are also six great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami. Donald was Baptized, Confirmed and a lifelong member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairland where his Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 with Reverend Leo Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairland Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairland. Casketbearers will be Kalen King, Charles Babst Jr., Michael Allgood, Shane Weaver, Charles Gragg and John Proctor.
