Larry Dean Garner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Larry Dean Garner, of Miami, OK, entered eternity with Jesus on Friday October 26, 2018 Arrangements are with Brown-Winters Funeral Home. Celebration of Life and Military Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Miami First Assembly of God Church at 1815 Steve Owens Blvd. with Pastor Raymond Frizzelle officiating. Private burial of ashes will occur at a later time at Ft. Gibson OK National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Larry's name to the First Assembly of God building fund. Larry was born January 16, 1952 to Earl and Louise Garner in Muskogee, OK. He was very proud of his Cherokee heritage and also loved to tell people he was “an original Okie from Muskogee”. He graduated from Central High School in Muskogee in 1970. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Phoenix. He served in the US Army from 1971-1973, and in the Army Reserves until 1984. Larry had diverse careers, including serving for a time with the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department. He retired from Phillip Morris USA. Larry has three dearly loved children. In 2007, he married the love of his life, Dr. Derrise Garner, and gained a stepdaughter. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, parents in law, and brother in law Ron Garrett. He will be greatly missed by Derrise; his children Adam (Tammy) Garner, Jason (Rachael) Garner, and Kristin (Kelly) Fields; stepdaughter Lindsay (Ryan) Reel; identical twin brother, Gary Garner; younger sisters Linda (Ben) Martin and Cheryl Garrett; brother in law Derrick Hussong; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews and the whole Garner clan; and numerous friends who considered Larry family. Larry and Derrise loved to worship The Lord. They served their church and community together. They enjoyed special times with their church family as well as with other family and friends. Larry never met a stranger, told the best stories, was an expert handyman, and was the embodiment of The Good Samaritan. Larry loved well and was well loved.
