October 21, 2012 - November 14, 2020
Daniel Jameson Long, 8, a sweet spirit with an old soul passed away at his home on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Daniel had fought for his life since March 4, 2018. He was fighting Ewings Sarcoma Bone Cancer. Daniel was born on October 21, 2012 in Miami to Mallory Rena’(Mercer) Poole. Daniel was a kind and compassionate person. His personality was one of encouragement for others, with a quick wit and humor, and a strong Faith in God, and he had wisdom far beyond his young years. He was kind and respectful, and loved visiting with friends and family when possible. He enjoyed swimming, sailing, video games, monkeys, Scooby Doo and Star Wars. He loved his family more than anything. He never gave up the will to fight for a future that he constantly spoke of and made plans for. All who had the opportunity to know him grew to love him because of his sense of compassion, kindness and quick wit. He was preceded in passing by his Great Grandpa John Shaw and his wife Janet and Great Grandfather Kenneth Mercer, Great Grandmother Juanita Acton and Great-Great Grandpa Richard “Dobs” Mallatt, Great-Great Grandmother Betty Parsons and her Husband Walt, Great-Great Grandfather Harvey Morgan, Great-Great Grandmother Elma Tucker and her Husband Red, Great-Great Grandfather Jack Shaw and his wife Josephine. Daniel was survived by his mom Mallory Poole, his brothers Cameron Clark, Alexander Long and David Robinson, his maternal grandparents David and Teresa Mercer, his Great-Grandmother Connie Shaw-Mallatt and her husband Richard, and his Great-Great Grandma Ella Mallatt. Along with many other relatives and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life for Daniel on Saturday, December 5, 2020 from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami, Okla. The family wishes to thank Dr. Justin Walker, of INTEGRIS Miami and Candace Hayward and Jeannie Palmer and staff at INTEGRIS Hospice along with Dr. Joy Fulbright and staff and Doctors at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, and Jason Fuser and staff at NEO Orthopedics & Rehabilitation in Miami, OK, for the exceptional care and love they showed and the many friendships developed during their time of caring for Daniel. Also they would like to thank the following for their prayers, love and friendship and assistance during Daniel’s illness: Mrs. Moravec and the staff of Rockdale, Miami Public School system and Ronald McDonald Houses of KC, Sporting Wishes Victory Project of KC, The Ross’ Foundation, Supporting Kids Foundation, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Oklahoma Make a Wish Foundation, as well as a very special thank you to the communities, friends and extended family who supported us with their love, prayers and kind gestures through this difficult and overwhelming journey. Daniel was so excited and amazed by the gifts and cards, he received in his last two months when his Great-Aunt Belinda posted an Un-birthday party for him on Face-Book as we did not know if he would be able to make it to October for his 8th Birthday and he was so worried he would miss his birthday. He was very blessed and uplifted by the showering of cards and gifts he received for weeks as due to his illness he had not gotten to go to school or much of anywhere outside of the hospital for almost three years and at times had felt he had no friends. He would giggle and want every part of the card read including the back and at times he exclaimed “Here I thought I didn’t really have any friends but look how many people love me!” Thank you from the bottom our hearts for all the many kind and unselfish acts of love from mowing our lawn, to a phone call, a prayer, a meal, picking up our mail, a surprise gift or putting out the dumpster for us, the list goes on. Without the love and support of many we could not have made it through this time and given Daniel and his brothers the undivided attention they deserved. May God bless you as well for your actions. Friends and family may send the family notes of encouragement by viewing Mr. Long’s Tribute Page at www.brown-winters.com.
