Callie Olean Simpson

On September 17, 2012, Callie “Olean” Burkham Simpson’s angels accompanied her from this world to meet her Lord and Savior, and loved ones in Heaven. She was born on August 18, 1922, to Jess Burkham in Pottsboro, Texas. Olean attended Dennison High School. As a young woman, she moved to Miami while working with the Levi Company. She met and married Lewis Morris Simpson on the 25th of December, 1940, in Sherman, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents. Olean was a long-time business woman in Miami. She owned and operated Olean’s, a dress shop and hair salon downtown for many years, and in her home. She had many loyal customers and friends for whom she was always thankful, appreciated and loved. Olean was baptized at the First Christian Church when she was eighteen years old. She remained a member of the church for seventy-two years. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marie Simpson Miller, husband Dr. Earl Wm Miller of Oklahoma City; Anita Louise Dawson, husband (deceased) Roy “Lee” Dawson Jr., Tulsa; Helen Faye Pidcock, husband Donald Pidcock, Harrison, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sister, Faye Burkham Perrin of Gainesville, Texas, and brother-in-law Walter Albert Simpson of Tulsa, Sister-in-law, Lillian Burkham, Sherman, Texas. Her beloved grandchildren surviving her are Dr. John Wm Miller and Shelleye Shields, Heather M. Cottom and Steve Cottom of Oklahoma City. Roy “Lee” Dawson III, Dana Dawson, of Pennsylvania, and Kelly Elizabeth Dawson of Oklahoma City. Steven M. Allen and Ami Allen, Oklahoma, Joshua R. Ball, Amy Ball, Kansas, and Jessica O. Ball, Arkansas. Great grandchildren surviving her are Luke Wm. Miller, Logan J. Miller, Leah N. Miller, Savannah M. Cottom, Summer A. Cottom, Shane A. Cottom, Lauren Byrne, Michael Dawson, Christopher Dawson, Meagan Mehdipour, Laurie Sexton, Brooklyn Allen, Taylor Allen, Devon Ball, Braston Allen, Trevor Allen, Payton Lasiter and Zoey Ball. Preceding Olean in passing were her parents, husband, and son in law Roy “Lee” Dawson Jr., brothers Doyle and J.D. Burkham, mother and father in law Walter and LaVesta Simpson, Brothers in law Robert and Eddie Simpson, and Bill Perrin, Sisters in law Ada Simpson, Lorene Moore and Geri Simpson. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Somerset Assisted Living, Oklahoma City, for the love they gave to our Mother and Grandmother. We want to thank Life Care Hospice for their love and assistance during Callie’s last days. She loved all of you, the residents and their families. Visitation is from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami. Graveside services are at 2:00 PM at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery with Minister Leon Weece of the First Christian Church officiating.
