Tommy JoAnn Bowers

She came into this world with an infectious smile and the voice of a songbird, on July 10th 1934. So many lives would be touched over the next 83 years, because of this day. Tommy Joann Durham was born and raised in Oklahoma. Although she definitely had a gypsy spirit living everywhere from Costa Rica to Arizona to Tennessee, she spent most of her life in good ole Oklahoma. She was born to her mother, Flora Mae Mills and father Cova Dee Durham. She was the youngest of three. She had two older brothers, Eugene and Bill. This hard working family survived during the time of the Great Depression, Jon Dillinger, the dust bowl, and the start of Hitlers reign. It was without a question a difficult time to be alive. Their strength, perseverance and devout relationship with God guided the, through those dark days. Although Tommy never attended high school, you would never be the wiser. She was highly intelligent, driven, classy, and the perfect constant lady. She worked different jobs but the most fulfilling for her was being a homemaker. She raised, with very little help, four wonderful children: Danny, Shelley, Tracy, and Becky. Then in 1965 she met, fell in love, and married an amazing man, Maynard Weathers. She would enjoy life to the fullest with him until his passing in 2001. In her spare time she enjoyed painting, crafts and watching old westerns. She loved church, singing, cooking, "The Duke" and her family. Tommy JoAnn "Nene" passed from this life to the next on November 16th, 2017. She was proceeded in death by her mother, father, and her brother Gene. Her surviving family includes: brother-Bill, son - Danny Weathers, daughters- Shelley McKinney, Tracy Heffentrager, and Rebeckah Weathers, Nephew: Bill Durham II, Grandchildren: Norman Weathers, Dawn Hurst, Anna Eperson, Shawna Glazier, Chris Weathers, Bregan Heffentrager-Brown, Tori Springfield, step-grandsons Mark and Brian McKinney, and also several great grandchildren. She will forever be loved, always cherished, and greatly missed. Thank you Good Shepard Hospice and Brown-Winters Funeral Home for your help and support during this time of need. She will be having a graveside service on the afternoon of November 28th, 2017 at Glenn Abbey Cemetery. Any donations can be made in her name to your local hospice or church.
