Roger Dee Oakley

Roger Dee Oakley, 60, of Overland Park, KS, died at 11:30 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Brookdale College Square in Overland Park, KS. He was born April 20, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Elmer L. Oakley and Imogene B. Jones. Roger was survived by his mother Imogene Jones of Afton, OK, brother Terry (Debbie) Oakley of Sugar Land, TX, daughters Jessica Handy of Cleora, OK, Kristy Lloyd of Owasso, OK, Brandie Disbrow of Sand Springs, OK, sons Richard Oakley of Sand Springs, OK, Justin (Mackenzie) Oakley and two granddaughters of Olathe, KS, and several other grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Roger’s father Elmer L. Oakley, two brothers Dee Oakley of Afton, OK and Tony Oakley of El Cajon, CA, and Sister Drew Garcia of Grandview, MO preceded him in death. Roger was a long time resident of Tulsa, OK where he lived after leaving his hometown of Afton, OK. He graduated from High school in Afton, OK and served 4 years in the United Stated Navy. He then attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma where he got a degree in computer science. Roger worked as a computer programmer for St. Francis hospital and then at St. Johns hospital for many years. He loved all sports and especially his Oklahoma Sooners, so much so he was willing to come to blows to defend the beloved coach Barry Switzer. If you had a problem with Barry you had a problem with Roger. This really captures the fire and passion that Roger had for anything he loved, especially his family. He was an avid cleaner and could not stand a dirty house or car, to the point he would clean the floors on his hands and knees almost daily and shine the doorknobs weekly. He may or may not have liked to place the occasional bet on sporting events as well and depending on what week you asked him, he was either the self-proclaimed worst gambler ever or the best. But the one thing that can’t be argued and where he did not waiver was the fact that he was the best father. There will be a memorial for Roger at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton, OK with Reverend Jerry Jones officiating.
