R. Marie Whitlock

R. Marie (Hughes) Whitlock age 93, of Fairland OK went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 30 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin MO surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Whitlock recently moved to Fairland from Granbury, Texas to live with her son John Pelham. Mrs. Whitlock was born in Fayetteville, AR February 16, 1924. Her parents were Clarence and Laura (Hillis) Hughes of Wyandotte, OK preceded her in death. Mrs. Whitlock was married on July 3, 1982 to Leroy Whitlock who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Whitlock is survived by four sons, Richard Pelham of Fort Worth TX, David Pelham of Burleson, TX , John Pelham of Fairland OK and James Hardee of Springtown, TX, two daughters, Brenda Space of Fort Worth TX, Diana Gibson-Ohan of Granbury TX and three stepsons Jim Whitlock, Jerry Whitlock and Jack Whitlock and one step daughter, Joyce Turner and one brother, Norman Hughes and wife Joann of Miami OK. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Amos Massey, Ernest Massey, Fay Hughes and Billy Joe Hughes, two sisters, Lorene Campbell, EvaDean (Hughes) McDannal. Mrs. Whitlock was a member of First Assembly of God, Fairland OK. Prior to moving to Fairland she was a member of Acton Baptist Church of Acton, TX. Mrs. Whitlock was an active member of various churches she attended through the years. She and her husband Roy Whitlock along with her sister and brother-in-law Deanie and Larry McDannal were active in ministering in jails in the Ottawa County and surrounding communities for several years. She loved games and fishing with family on Grand Lake. Mrs. Whitlock is survived by sixteen grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and eighteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews in the area. Visitation is on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Services are on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at First Assembly of God in Fairland with Reverend Jackie Crafton and Reverend Tom Estes officiating. Services are placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairland.
