Orville C. Macklin

Orville C. Macklin, 92, of Miami passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw. He was born on April 25, 1923 in Racine, Wisconsin to Roy and Francis Macklin. O.C. joined the Army Air Corps, where he worked as a Belly Gunner. He worked for the B.F. Goodrich Tire Plant in Miami for thirty-eight years, although he loved his work he spent many years supporting local Veterans. He was a member of the American Legion for over sixty years, during which time he was the Commander of Post #147, he was a service officer, and he formed the Veterans Funeral Detail and the Holiday Flag Program. He was very proud that he had provided honors to 1352 veterans over his years on the Funeral Detail. He worked very closely for many years on the Boys State program for the American Legion and was a member of the 40 and 8, and held several positions with them. Mr. Macklin loved his family, he enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping with them. O.C. was preceded in passing by his wife Lillian (Phillips) Macklin, a grandson Brian Newman, a wife Beth Macklin and a son-in-law Tom Hite along with his brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son Steve Macklin and his wife Kathy of Afton, daughters Teri Hite of Bentonville, Judee Snodderly and her husband Chris of Miami and Cindy Roberts of Tucson, Arizona, step sons Curtis McVay and his wife Debra, Mike McVay and a step daughter Kim (Grover) Smith. Other survivors include grandchildren Samantha Thompson and her husband Mark, Julie Henbest, Traci Cook and her husband Danny, Will Roberts, Andrew Roberts and his wife Kristen, Ashley Arnold, Nick Macklin, Michael Macklin, step grandchildren Joshua Huffman and his wife Megan, Caleb Huffman and his wife Jamie, Canaan Huffman and his wife Heather, Jacob “Beeper” Huffman and his wife Lindsay, Ben McVay, Pete McVay, Cody McVay, Jeremy McCabe, Justin McCabe and Brandi Black. Also surviving are thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Visitation is 6-8PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Miami. Services are 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at First Christian Church in Miami with Leon Weece, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #147 Funeral Honors Team. Casketbearers will be Will Roberts, Justus Washburn and Jaden Washburn, Logan Henbest, Nick Macklin, Nate Frailey, Ethan Clark and Kendryck Cook. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Grand Lake Shrine Clubs Transportation Fund.
