Minnie Fern Grissom

Minnie Fern Grissom went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday March 23, 2011 in Miami, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years. Fern was born November 1, 1922 on her parents farm near McLoud, Oklahoma. Her parents were Milford and Lula Cochran. Fern was a home maker and loved her family dearly. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very dear and precious to her. Fern and Jesse have lived in Miami, OK since 1964. They have also lived in Tahlequah, OK for six years. On March 28, 1943 Mr. Jesse Grissom took Miss Fern Cochran as his bride in Wellston, Oklahoma. They both were members of the Bethany Christian “Disciples of Christ” Church of Miami. Fern has been a Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years at the church. She loved cooking, baking, and embroidery. She also enjoyed canning, traveling and reading books. Fern was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, she was also a member of N.A.R.F.E. Fern and Jesse enjoyed attending their high school reunions as well as Jesse’s Military reunions. Fern worked for Weight Watchers for 20 years. Fern is survived by her 3 Daughters: Janet and husband Jerry Runnels of Liberal, Missouri, Lillian and husband Page Farmer of McLoud, OK, Gloria and husband Vernon Siler of Miami, Oklahoma, 2 Sons: Raymond and wife Pat Grissom of Lamar, Missouri and Russell and wife Cathy Grissom of Miami, Oklahoma, 11 Grandchildren, 21 Great grandchildren and 5 Great-great grandchildren and a host of longtime friends, neighbors and church family. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany Christian “Disciples of Christ” Church, American Diabetes Association or Special Olympics. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday March 26, 2011 at Bethany Christian Church of Miami with Pastor Ron Eden and Bob Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Abbey Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday March 25, 2011 from 7-8 PM at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. Pallbearers serving will include: Michelle Keener, Christy Siler, Laura Ford, Aimee Hicks, Tiffany Miller, Teresa Miller, Shannon Fleming.
