Larry Gene Matthews

Larry Gene Matthews, 68, a longtime resident of Fairland passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at his home. Larry was born on August 4, 1947 in Fairland to Dave and Martha Alice (Creason) Matthews. He joined the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged at the Rank of Sergeant. Larry worked as a Plant Manager for Calpine Corporation; he worked for them for twenty-three years before retiring in February 2011. Larry was a hard worker that loved to work on his farm he enjoyed camping, gardening and cooking for the neighborhood. Larry was preceded in passing by his parents Dave and Alice Matthews, his siblings TJ Matthews, Betty White, Paula Seay, Randy Matthews, Bob Matthews along with a brother in law, Pat Dale, and his first wife Nancy Miller. Survivors include his wife Tonnie (Stratton) Matthews of the home, Kristi Wilmoth and her husband Rusty of Fairland, Justin Matthews and his wife Hanan of Miami, David Matthews and Corey Caldwell of Fairland, Haley Matthews of the home, Lindsey Powell and her husband David of Spokane, Washington and Kash Chandler of Fairland. Other survivors are his grandchildren Jaxson, Jasper Oakley, Dalton, Layne Wilmoth, Tyson, Maddison, Aspen, Easton Matthews and Amelia Powell. His siblings Meta Oakley and her husband Ted of Fairland, Barbara Sue Dale of Miami and Davene Kahler and her husband Bill of Fairland. His sister in laws Linda Dugan and her husband Elmer and Melissa Hudspeth and her husband Eddie, and Brenda Matthews of Kentucky. Brothers-in Law Bud White of Fairland, and David Seay of Tulsa along with many nieces, nephews, and other family. Visitation is Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Services will be Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Fairland with Reverend Bill Kahler officiating. Interment will follow at the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Charley Daniels, Lynn Oakley, Steve Oakley, Mark Oakley, Roy Frost and M.H. Dake. Honorary Casketbearers are Posthumously David Wilmoth and Bob Matthews.
