Jesse Claud Grissom

Longtime resident of Miami since 1964 Mr. Jesse Claud Grissom passed from this life and entered into heavens gates on Sunday April 11, 2010 in Miami, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years. Jesse was born November 4, 1920 to his parents Perry A. and Hettie M. Brown Grissom in Nobel, Oklahoma. Jesse served his country faithfully in the 44th Infantry Division, 119 Medical Battalion and Headquarter Detachment, United States Army. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a Land Operation Officer for many years. On March 28, 1943 Jesse took Miss Fern Cochran as his bride in Wellston, Oklahoma. They both resided in Tahlequah, Oklahoma from 1958 until 1964 while then moving to Miami. Jesse was a life long member of the American Legion. He was also a lifelong member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees serving as President for over 5 years. Jesse was a longtime and distinguished member of Bethany Christian Church and a choir member. He served as a volunteer at Integris Regional Hospital for over 19 years. Jesse would also volunteer to prepare taxes for needy families during tax season. Jesse loved his family dearly, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a wonderful and loving husband to his dear wife Fern. Jesse enjoyed gardening. Although Jesse is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: His wife of 67 years Fern Grissom of the home, 3 Daughters: Janet and husband Jerry Runnels of Liberal, Mo, Lillian and husband Page Farmer of McLoud Ok, Gloria and husband Vernon Siler of Miami, Ok, 2 Sons: Raymond and wife Pat Grissom of Lamar, Mo, Russell and wife Cathy Grissom of Miami, Ok, 1 Brother: Darrell Grissom and wife Mildred of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 11 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday April 14, 2010 at Bethany Christian Church with Pastor Ron Eden and Bob Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Abbey Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday April 13, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. Pallbearers serving are Lee Siler, Micheal Back, Michael Grissom, Rodney Keener, Michael Miller, Gregory Ford, Michael Martin, Honorary Pallbearers include: Jeff Birdsong, Ed Burchett, Marvin Cantwell, Robert Asbell, Michael Victory, Chip Hammons, Travis Miller, Dustin Fleming, Nelson Hicks. The family has chosen Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home with their services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany Christian Church or Integris Baptist Regional Auxiliary.
