James Moore

James Edwin Moore was born to Lydia Williams Moore, widow of James Moore, December 7, 1919, in Miami, OK. One of nine children, he grew up in Miami, spending many days on the banks of the Neosho River. His paternal grandmother, Carrie "Ma" McBride was a major influence in his life and became his second mother. June 26, 1938, James married the love of his life and wife of 76 years, Marjorie Lesan Moore. After serving 2 years in the US Navy during WWII, he returned to his wife and 2 young children, Jimmy Brant Moore and Linda Jean Moore, and they began a lifelong adventure. Pulled between the exciting land of opportunity, family, and hometown roots, the family alternated many years between California, the land of promise, and Kansas, nearer to family and closer to home, eventually returning to Miami in 1970 and into their true home at 406 J NW in 1974. James held many jobs over the years but his independent spirit led him to develop an ever-evolving career as a creative businesman and he thoroughly enjoyed many ventures throughout his life. He traveled the countryside buying burlap bags for resale, enjoyed buying trips for produce to stock his roadside stands, was known in Wichita, Kansas, as a lawn specialist, and in one of his most creative endeavors, provided garbage cans to many Miami residents before the city began supplying them. But the professional role he enjoyed the most was his many years as a musician. Regardless of where James lived, music was a big part ofhis life. As a guitarist, vocalist , and band leader, he performed at many venues, including the distinction of being the first live band for local radio station KGLC, Jim Moore and the Nite Hawks. Over the years he enjoyed playing many dances and campaigning for local politicians. As much as James loved music, it was a distant second to his love for his family. He had an amazing bond with his wife, Margie, and was a very proud father of Jimmy and Linda, Later he beamed as Grandpa, and he and Margie raised one of their five grandchildren, "Joy", who came to them at the age of two and became their third baby. Then came ten great-grandchildren and all the great-great grandchildren. As the family grew, so did the intensity of his love. James was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Gene Cravens, Joe McGary, Jerry Coble, Bud Coble, little Fern Moore, and Fern's twin Ruth Moore Morris; also his daughter, Linda Jean Moseley. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Moore, son Jimmy Moore, and grandaughter Joyce Moore Irwin and her husband Tommy, whose recent wedding he proudly attended despite a nasty respirtory virus that was no match for his determination. He is also survived by grandchildren Donna Price Perry and husband Jim, David Price, Sharon Moore Dimaano and husband Jonathan, Tina Moore Martinez and husband Paul, all of his great and great-great grandchildren, sisters Bobbie Coble McQueen and husband Tom, Pat Coble Rue and husband Lonnie, and many neices and nephews. After 94 years of love and adventure, James Edwin Moore left this life on August 2, 2014, but he will always remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless acquaintances with whom he shared his music or a favorite joke. Mr. Moore’s Services are 2:00 PM on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Cooper Memorial Chapel at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Reverend Rick Longcrier officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery where Military Rites will be provided. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the Funeral Homes chapel.
