Homer Richard Unger

Mr. Homer Unger left this world and entered into eternity on May 13, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Homer was born January 5, 1923 in Odell, Arkansas to his parents Eva and James Unger. On August 16, 1947 he and his late wife, Ardie were married in Columbus, Kansas. He and Ardie have lived in Miami their entire life. Homer served his country faithfully in the United States Air Corp during WWII completing 20 missions over France and Germany as a top gunner. When Homer returned from the military he became a loyal and dedicated employee of BF Goodrich working as a Tire builder. Homer enjoyed deer hunting in Colorado and hunting quail and pheasant with his birddogs. He was a true outdoorsman. Homer loved to work with wood as well. He built the family home he and Ardie shared. When Homer was not working you could catch him on the dance floor. In fact, he and Ardie met and fell in love at the American Legion Dance Hall in 1946. Homer was a wonderful husband, father and extraordinary grandfather. He loved his grandchildren dearly. Although he is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: 3 Daughters: Louise and her late husband Dennis Wright of Miami, Marilyn and husband Richard Maple of Miami, Pat and husband Frank Hecksher of Miami, 9 Grandchildren: Russell and wife Doris Wright, Joe and wife Dorothy Wright, Denise and husband Jimmy Gates, Derek and wife Lucja Hecksher, Brett Hecksher and Blake Hecksher, Ronnie and wife Stacie Maple, Cody and wife Jessi Maple, Randee and husband Travis Craghead, 15 Great grandchildren: Marcus, Landon, Olivia, Lillie, Clay, Sophia, Karlee, Sierrah, Tori, Karson, Trey, Tanner, Emma Grace, Brelee Laine and Mylee. Homer is preceded in death by his parents, wife: Ardie Unger (6-23-2008) 5 Brothers: Clarence, Merritt, Clinton, Raymond and Jack Unger, 2 Sisters: Annie Southard and LaCrecia Latson. Pallbearers serving will include grandsons: Rusty Wright, Joe Wright, Ronnie Maple, Cody Maple, Derek Hecksher, Brett Hecksher, Blake Hecksher, Marcus Wright, Honorary Pallbearers include: Joe Mercer, Eldon Mercer, Daryl Mercer, Lawson Essex, Frank Hecksher and Richard Maple. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday May 18, 2011 at Apostolic Assembly Church with Pastor Phil Shyers officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
