Gary Gene Carroll

Gary Gene Carroll, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born on November 4, 1940 in Commerce, Oklahoma where he began a life filled with love, kindness, and cherished memories. While in grade school, Gary’s family moved to Miami, Oklahoma and he grew up with his two brothers, Joe and David. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Linda Peters, and was deeply committed to her for 65 years. In 1963, Gary & Linda started a new chapter in their lives and moved to Iowa. As a devoted family man, Gary and Linda together raised two boys, Rick and Mike. In Iowa, Gary worked for John Deere as a Mechanical Engineer for 20 years. He had many hobbies that he enjoyed with his family such as working with Ham Radios, earning his pilot’s license, and restoring old cars. Once his boys graduated from school, a longing for his Oklahoma roots led him to move back to the Afton, Oklahoma area. Out of a wheat field, he built a home and a successful business that he was especially proud of. Gary was able to enjoy over 20 years of retirement running around the countryside and enjoying his golden years with Linda by his side. Gary lived a Christian life. He marveled at the beauty of nature and had a soft spot in his heart for furry friends. He had many dogs and kitties as family members throughout his life and dearly loved every one of them. Gary will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle demeanor, and compassionate heart. He touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, kindness, and dedication. Gary is preceded in death by his mother and father, Maxine & Gene Carroll, and brother, David Carroll. Gary is survived by his wife Linda, brother Joe of Afton, sons Rick (Lisa) Carroll, Mike (Annette) Carroll both of Carrollton, TX, grandchildren Nick, Justin, Stephanie, step-grandchildren Alexandrea, Gavin, and seven great grandchildren. The Carroll family extends a heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. Please join them in remembering the beautiful person Gary was on this earth and the knowledge that he is now with the Lord. Gary’s wishes were for cremation. Cremation services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton, Oklahoma. There will be a private family memorial at a later date. Gary wishes were that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to any local non-kill animal shelter in his name.
