Dennis Dean Fisher

Dennis Dean Fisher, a seventy-eight year old Afton resident passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. Dean was born on August 12, 1940 in rural Delaware County to Wilton L. and Lillian Francis (Mustain) Fisher. Mr. Fisher graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education. He farmed and ranched in the Afton area for most of his life. He married the love of his life on November 23, 1963, Ethel Marlene Reynolds. Dean was a member of the United States Army National Guard. In 1984, he sold his dairy cattle, and continued to raise crops and beef cattle while working for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. After retiring from the OTA, he worked at Precision Machine in Grove. He and Marlene are longtime members of Trinity Southern Baptist church in Afton, where he was a dedicated Deacon for many years, and taught the Adult Sunday School Class for fifty-three consecutive years. Dean had also served for twelve years on the Afton Board of Education from 1972 to 1984. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking; making several pieces of furniture that he has share with his family and his church. He also raised a big garden every year and he enjoyed making picante sauce, jelly and pickles. Mr. Fisher was preceded in passing by his parents Wilton and Lillian Fisher. Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife of nearly fifty-six years Marlene Fisher of the home, his children Lana Knott and her husband Don of Lucien, Oklahoma, Jana Gibson and her husband Dwayne of Afton, Gayle DuBois and her husband Rick of Grove, his grandchildren Jared Austin and his wife Gilda of Tulsa, Jason Austin and his wife Marissa of Grove, Riley DuBois of Grove, Morgan Knott of Lucien, Levi Hite and his wife McKayla of Stillwater, and Wyatt Knott of Sulphur, a great granddaughter Piper Austin, a great grandson Barrett Hite, a sister Jane Sawyer and her husband Tony of Afton, his niece Teresa Gordon and her husband Tim of Broken Arrow and his great nephews Christopher Gordon of Pittsburgh, Kansas and Nathan Gordon and his wife Samantha of Oahu, Hawaii. Visitation will be at the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton with Reverend Brian Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton.
