Cloyce Newkirk

Cloyce Alvin Newkirk, 89 of Miami, Oklahoma passed away Sunday afternoon, November 6 at Higher Call Nursing Center. Cloyce came into this world on March 1, 1933 to Robert and Gladys (Heitzman) Newkirk in El Reno, Oklahoma. He graduated high school with Bluejacket’s Class of 1951. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara (Stoner) Newkirk on November 20, 1954 at Narcissa Baptist Church. They were married 62 years. The Newkirk’s were members of the First Baptist Church in Bluejacket where he was very active. He was a deacon, taught Sunday School and led the music for many years. Cloyce also served in the U.S. Navy where he was a Metalsmith and PO2 aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany. Cloyce also worked for many years at B.F. Goodrich and later at Ken’s Farm and Home. He enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter and craftsman. He loved spending time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Cloyce observed his playful sense of humor and his love for people. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Gladys Newkirk, his wife Barbara, his son Jeffrey, his grandsons Chris Pugh and Kyle Pugh, a great granddaughter Gracie Pugh, a son-in-law Charles Pugh, his sisters Evelyn Hemphill, Betty Shroy, Bea Newkirk, brothers Bill Newkirk, James Newkirk and Jerry Newkirk, sisters-in-law Dolly Newkirk and Joy Stoner and brother-in-law Dick Shroy. Survivors include Rhonda Merrill and her husband Mark, Lisa Burrows and her husband Gary of Miami and Michael Newkirk of Guymon, Oklahoma, a niece Sandy Norton and her husband Richard of Mound Valley, Kansas, a sister-in-law Mettie Newkirk of Peculiar, Missouri, brothers-in-law Bill Stoner of Miami, Eddy Stoner and his wife Sherry of Fairland, Don Stoner and his wife Dixie of Bluejacket, his grandchildren Chelsea Wilson and her husband Kyle, Charlie McQuigg, Kayla McQuigg and great grandchildren Clayton Pugh and Jarrett Pugh and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation is Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami. There will be a Celebration of Life at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Bluejacket with the Reverend Wes Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the Williams Timberhill Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Kyle Wilson, Chelsea Wilson, Charlie McQuigg, Kayla McQuigg, Clayton Pugh and Jarrett Pugh. Honorary Casketbearers will be Chris Pugh and Kyle Pugh The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church in Bluejacket in honor of Mr. Newkirk.
