Bobby Ray Johnson

Bobby Ray Johnson, 81, a resident of Miami, Oklahoma, gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bob was born in Hockerville, Oklahoma, on March 1, 1943, to Lafe Elijah and Opal Violet (Gilbert) Johnson. Bob attended Quapaw High School. After high school, he was drafted and served in the United States Army. While serving he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was an artillery man working with Nike Hercules Missiles. He was always very proud that he was able to serve his country. After being honorably discharged from the military he came back home and found work in the mines in Missouri until he met the love of his life Jonnita Reneé Whited, and they would spend fifty-six wonderful years loving one another and raising three children. Bob worked as a welder/fabricator his whole life. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to church, and loving on his miniature schnauzer Skye. He especially enjoyed the monthly dinners with his family. Bob’s greatest love in life was The Lord. He and Jonnita would travel and spread the love of God attending revivals and camp meetings across Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. When he wasn’t travelling, he called Friendship Community Church with Pastor Delores Terrell, his “BFF” in Mannford, Oklahoma home. Bob is preceded in passing by his parents, Lafe Elijah and Opal Violet Johnson, his mother-in-law, who loved him like her own son, Ora Bell Whited, brother, Charles “Chuck” Turner, bother, Joe Dean Johnson, brother, Lafie Clifford Johnson, and sister-in-law Frankie Whited-Ventura. Those left to share the beautiful memory of Bob include his wife, Jonnita Johnson of the home, son Keah Shawn Johnson and his wife Michelle, of Grove, daughter, Tonya Kirk and her husband Wayne, of Baxter Springs, Mellissa Johnson of Miami, brother, David Johnson and his wife Claudia of Commerce, sister, Opal Christine Jones of Duncan, Oklahoma, grandchildren include Tyler Johnson and his wife Jordi, Andrew Turner and his wife Corey, Paege Peña and her wife Alexis, Bradon Kirk, Colton Kirk, and Benjamin McColley, great grandchildren include Jordan Ray Peña, Olliver Peña , Frankie Peña, and Grady Peña, also a host of family and friends. There will be a visitation for Bob on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami starting at 6:00 P.M. and ending at 8:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Highway Tabernacle Church in Quapaw, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas.
