Sherran K Pettus

Sharon Pettus, 74, of rural Mayes County passed from this life Monday, October 31st, 2022, in Grove, Oklahoma. She was born February 18, 1948, in Cushing, Oklahoma, as the daughter of Raymond and Opal Coyner. She attended schools in the Cushing and Ripley area and graduated from Stroud High School. Sharon fell in love with and married the true love of her life, Bill Pettus on February 26, 1966, in Cushing, Oklahoma. Sharon loved the Lord God and His son Jesus and was a bold witness for Him until the end. Next to her faith, she absolutely loved her family, her circle of friends/Church family and not least of all, her pets. She enjoyed a varied work life to include operating a game room for students, owning a BBQ restaurant, working in various healthcare positions as well as managing several other food-related ventures throughout the years. Additionally, just to add a little more variety, she worked for a helicopter tour service while in Maui, Hawaii, while on island with a group of lifelong friends. She was “always game” for new things and loved to challenge herself and husband Bill with new projects that always kept them busy. As an artist, she was always creating, whether it was on canvas, in the yard, or decorating/redecorating her home. Sharon was a wonderful cook and loved feeding large groups of family and friends at home events and at “fish fry’s” where they would invite the neighbors and those around the community for good food and a fun-filled Karaoke time. She was also famous for her “secret recipe” BBQ sauce which she made for those lucky few as an annual Christmas present. Sharon was a creative soul and so full of life and wove humor into nearly every encounter. Her answer to “How tall are you?” was: “I’m a little sawed-off shotgun—4.10” She is survived by sons Derek Pettus of Kearney, Missouri, and Skip Pettus and wife Lori of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren Ryan and Colby Pettus and Dakota and Dylan Pettus. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Pettus, daughter Rhonda Pettus, her parents Raymond and Opal Coyner, and her brother Don Coyner. Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, November 18th at 11am at the Perkins Church of the Firstborn (404 East 92nd Street, Perkins, Oklahoma 74059). A luncheon will follow the life celebration service.
