Jo Nell Babst

Jo Nell Babst, 83, a longtime Fairland resident and Ottawa County Educator passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Integris Miami Hospital. Jo Nell was born on April 21, 1938 in Colcord, Oklahoma to “Joe” Joseph Franklin and Bessie Lucille (Brown) Chamberlain. She graduated from Colcord High School, then NEO A&M College, and then with a Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma State University in Home Economics and Education. Jo Nell took her first job at Fairland High School where she met her love of sixty years Charles Babst, they were married December 30, 1960. Mrs. Babst later went to work for the Vo-Tech system before joining the OSU Extension office in Ottawa County. She loved to help the children in 4-H. Mrs. Babst was an excellent cook; she also enjoyed needle work and had completed many quilts. Over the years she baked many wedding cakes, they were usually gifts to her students for their special day. Jo Nell was preceded in passing by her parents, a brother Leroy Chamberlain and a sister Belva Darlene Chamberlain. Survivors include her husband Charles Babst Sr., her son Charles Babst Jr., her daughter LaDonna Lea Babst, her grandchildren Annika Hunter-Babst, Elizabeth L. Wayant, Lauren N. Ruyle, Connor S Ruyle, Logan Charles Babst and a great grandchild Ezra Wayant. Along with a host of nieces nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Graveside Services are 10:45 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Fairland Lutheran Cemetery in Fairland, Oklahoma with Reverend Leo Schroeder officiating. Interment is under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Casketbearers will be Dale E. Chamberlain, Mike W. Detherage, Phillip R. Odle, Robin D. Denny, William C. Werner and Charles R.
